Explosion Kills One in Van Zandt County

Propane seeping into home led to explosion, investigators say

The death of a person killed in a house explosion Sunday night in Van Zandt County has been ruled accidental.

According to investigators, a partially open propane valve seeped the flammable gas into the home near Highway 47 between Mabank and Caton.  After the resident returned to home at about 5:30 p.m., something ignited the vapors.

The Van Zandt Emergency Response office confirmed to NBC DFW on Sunday that an adult was deceased at the scene as a result of an explosion and fire, though no other details were released.

Officials on Monday ruled the explosion an accident.

No information about the victim will be released until the next of kin is notified.
