East Texas Man Gets 99 Years in Estranged Wife's Slaying

An East Texas man was sentenced to 99 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally stabbing his estranged wife in a case that prompted a national campaign.

A jury Thursday sentenced 36-year-old Brad Dunn in the 2013 death of Kari Dunn in a Marshall hotel room. The jury also assessed a $10,000 fine. Brad Dunn pleaded guilty Tuesday to murder.

Brad Dunn was accused of dragging Kari Dunn into a bathroom and fatally stabbing her after she took their three children to visit him at the hotel. Her daughter tried to call 911 but was unsuccessful, not realizing she had to first press 9.

Kari Dunn's family launched a campaign to make all hotels allow guests to dial 911 without having to press another number for an outside line.
