Northbound East Loop 820 reopened shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday morning, several hours after an overhead sign crashed down onto the roadway blocking traffic.
Hurst police said a pickup truck crashed into the sign at state Highway 10.
The sign that let drivers know about the Pipeline Road and Glenview Drive exit and the Loop 820, state Highway 121/183 interchange blocked all northbound lanes of the highway for several hours.
A Texas Department of Transportation supervisor on the scene said the area where the pickup truck driver hit the sign is about 50-60 feet off the roadway. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Hurst police said DWI charges are pending against the driver of the pickup truck.
Traffic was diverted off East Loop 820 at Trinity Boulevard but drivers could still access East Loop 820 from state Highway 121 northbound.
TxDOT said it would take several hours to clear the sign and reopen the highway.
Just before 6:45 a.m. a front loader was brought in to pull down the sign so that crews could cut it into pieces and remove what's left.
