ERCOT Expects Plenty of Electricity for Hot Texas Summer

The grid operator for Texas says electric users should have sufficient supply into the summer.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, on Tuesday announced its summer prediction for energy supplies. ERCOT official Warren Lasher says there should be enough generation available to serve consumer needs this summer, based on the current forecast.

ERCOT's preliminary fall report also anticipates sufficient electric generation for the October through November period.

A review of existing and planned resources and load forecasts for the next 10 years shows planning reserve margins remaining above 15 percent through 2026.

ERCOT manages the flow of electric power to nearly 24 million Texas customers, representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load.
