Dozens of US Flags Vandalized in Duncanville

The Duncanville Rotary Club wants to know who destroyed a patriotic display of.dozens of United States flags around Armstrong Park overnight Friday.

Someone bent flag poles, tore and stole the flags that surrounded park. The flags have been displayed since Veterans Day.

The park is adjacent to Duncanville City Hall and its police department.

Officers informed the Duncanville Rotary Club early Saturday that they would find vandalism when the group picked up the 1,100 flags. NBC 5 viewer Josh Fitzpatrick took pictures of the flags and emailed NBCDFW and placed pictures on the club's Facebook page.

"I don't know who would have it in their heart to destroy a symbol that means so much to so many people," Fitzpatrick said. "It's really unfathomable to think that someone could be that disrespectful to tear a flag, not just one but to do up to 30 around the heart of our city. It's shameful."

The flags around the park were paid for through donations. The Rotary Club has placed flags in Duncanville for the last several years to mark five patriotic holidays.

The group plans to replace the flags and continue the project.

They just hope those responsible will do the right thing and turn themselves into police.
