Doors Open to 2016 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

As the gates to the 2016 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo opened Friday, many visitors were greeted by a piece of art created by a local student.

Daniela Cortes, a 16-year-old junior at Granbury High School, submitted her painting, "Heels & Jewelry",  to judges for the Stock Show Art Contest.

The judges named it this year's Grand Champion.

Daniela told NBC DFW's Deborah Ferguson she hopes to teach art someday, much like Mike Tabor, Cortes' teacher at Granbury High School.

Daniela's talent runs in the family - her twin sister, Gabriela, has also won prizes for her art.

Daniela's art piece, along with other submissions, will be displayed during the Stock Show and Rodeo from Jan. 15 through Feb. 6.

The pivot setters hit the arena and perform before every event at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
