Domestic Violence Shelter Donated By Dallas Couple

A new shelter will soon open in North Texas for women and children trying to escape domestic violence.

A Dallas couple has donated a house to the local non-profit organization "Women Called Moses".

The organization provides advocacy, crisis counseling and other support for women, children and families.

Anita and LaTroy Hawkins donated the south Dallas home, which will accommodate up to 12 families.

It's set to open by the end of the year.

The couple's organization "Find a Reason to Smile" is hosting an event next month benefiting "Women Called Moses".

The event, "Open Mic Night - Comedy, Spoken Word and Music," will be held at Kay's Restaurant and Bar at 8010 N. Stemmons Freeway in Dallas on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 pm.
