Dogs Attack Teen Jogging in Fort Worth Neighborhood

Animal control is looking for two dogs that attacked an 18-year-old jogger

A Fort Worth teenager is now recovering after two dogs viciously attacked her Monday as she was doing her usual morning run.

β€œI was screaming really loud,” said 18-year-old Payton Hicks. β€œI figured someone would come out and help me.”

But nobody came to help Hicks. She said by the time she noticed the dogs, it was too late.

β€œI didn't even see them following me,” said Hicks. β€œI saw them from across the street and that's when they ran at me.”

The attack happened at Clayton Road East and Brants Lane, right next to Luther Lake, a residential area where it's common to see runners, walkers and kids playing in the streets.

β€œI think they were strays,” said Hicks. β€œThey didn't have a collar and they looked kind of dirty. And I run past that area every single morning and I’ve never seen them.”

Hick's said it was a pit bull and rottweiler that attacked her. One bite left a gash in her leg, where she now has five stitches, and she was taken to the hospital to also get rabies shots.

Now, Hicks says she won't be running in her neighborhood any time soon.

β€œI’ll probably stick to a treadmill for a while,” said Hicks.

Fort Worth Animal Care and Control reports it has not found the two dogs as of Monday night. But the agency has a new team that started a few months ago to try and combat problems with stray animals just like this.
