A man who recently won the Republican primary for the 432nd District Court judge race is presumed dead after his boat capsized on a lake in Hill County, the sheriff’s office said.
Crews searched all night Friday for the body of Fort Worth attorney Tom Zachry, 66. Capt. Larry Armstrong of the Hill County Sheriff’s Office said Zachry and another man were fishing in Aquilla Lake in Hillsborough on Friday evening.
As of Monday, the search continued.
The other man was rescued and was treated for severe hypothermia. The lake was 57 degrees Friday afternoon, but temperatures dropped as nightfall closed in.
The search was called off Saturday due to bad storms in the area, but Armstrong said he hoped they could resume the recovery efforts once they got a break in the weather.
Zachry did not have a Democratic challenger in the race for judge and was considered a shoo-in for the general election in November.
