Disguised Thieves Caught on Camera in Construction Zone

Police and construction workers in Corinth are looking for help to find two "wanna-be workers" who broke into a site this week.

On Tuesday night, roughly 20 minutes after site managers left, two men were caught on camera in the Classical Academy of Corinth construction site along the southbound Interstate 35E frontage road.

The video shows the two men driving off the frontage road and through the grass yard of the future school before pulling up to the fenced-in lot, cutting the chains that locked the site and proceeding inside.

The men, who are dressed in safety vests and hard hats as if working there, then broke into several storage containers, eventually taking two tillers valued at about $600 each, and driving out of the site.

"Around $3,500 total with the damage to the units," said construction manager and superintendent Chance Ruttedge.

After previous thefts from the site, including thousands of dollars in shingles and other supplies, Ruttedge added cameras all around the campus in hopes of catching future break-ins.

He's forwarded the video and pictures to the Corinth police and is now sharing them with the public in hopes of finding the people responsible for the break-in.

While the two men are tough to distinguish, their white truck has some stand-out features, including a dirty truck bed, decals in the four corners and center of the back window and what look like wide wheel wells.

Ruttedge said one of the companies they work with on the site has already offered up a $500 reward and they hope to add to that amount to help bring in information leading to an arrest.

The site is the future home of the Classical Academy of Corinth, a public charter school run by ResponsiveEd.

"I've got to finish the job in August for school to open, and, yeah, it just hinders it, puts a big delay," said Ruttedge.

The crew has already been set back by weather several times this year, losing close to a month of work days, Ruttedge said.
