Disaster Assistance Expands to Dallas After Floods

Homeowners, renters and business owners in Dallas who were affected by May and June flooding may be eligible for federal assistance.

The assistance is only available for people affected by flooding beginning on May 5 through June 19, 2015.

Disaster assistance for qualified applicants may include grants for rental assistance, temporary housing, and home repairs not covered by insurance. Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) were also offered.

Dallas residents will need to bring contact information, including a Social Security number, insurance information, damage information and proof of gross income.

There are three ways to register for federal assistance:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Via smartphone or web-enabled device by using the FEMA app
  • Calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585

Once registered, a FEMA inspector will contact you to set up an appointment. The inspector will review documentation needed for proof of residency before arranging an on-site inspection.

City of Dallas officials warned to be aware of financial scams exploiting disaster victims. FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration staff never charge applicants for disaster assistance, inspection or help filling out applications.

FEMA inspectors verify damages but will not recommend or hire a specific contractor for repairs.

Registration is available in-person at the following locations:

Lake Highlands North Recreation Center at 9940 White Rock Trail

  • July 7, 10 a.m. through 7 p.m.
  • July 8, 10 a.m. through 7 p.m.
