Dirk Nowitzki Sidelined By Knee Surgery

Dallas Mavericks say knee surgery is "successful"

Six weeks of rest and rehabilitation is in order for Dallas Mavericks' superstar Dirk Nowitzki.

On Friday, the team announced the Power Forward underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.  According to a press release, team surgeon T.O. Souryal performed the procedure at Texas Sports Medicine.

Nowitzki missed three preseason games because of his knee. Doctors drained it twice to relieve swelling. He played in Berlin on October 6.

Nowitzki is in his 15th NBA season.  He is working with eight new teammates.

He is also a new husband. He married Jessica Olsson in July.
