Deputies, North Texas Tourist Rescue Family of 6 From Rough Surf

Two sheriff's deputies and a Texas man are being credited for saving six tourists from rough surf in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Pensacola News Journal reported Escambia County Sheriff's deputies Darren Robinson and Stefan Chamlis were on beach patrol Tuesday when they spotted two young children, two mothers and two male family members struggling in the water. They radioed for help and went in the water.

At the same time, Frank Counselman, of Rockwell, Texas was on his balcony and saw the commotion. He grabbed a flotation device and ran to help.

Counselman helped one swimmer to safety while the deputies and the lifeguards assisted the others.

Officials said two men were treated and released from the hospital. The other swimmers were unharmed.
