Denton Teacher Faces Child Exploitation Complaint

Denton ISD sends letter to students and parents

A North Texas high school journalism teacher has been charged with sexual exploitation of minors over alleged suggestive cellphone contact with a Louisiana boy.

Federal court records show 38-year-old Gregory Bogomol of Fort Worth was arrested last week and faces a detention hearing Wednesday. The complaint identifies Bogomol as an instructor at Denton High School.

The complaint says the parents of a 15-year-old Louisiana boy reported he was solicited via cellphone to send nude photos and the teen complied. Investigators say the cellphone account led to Bogomol, who allegedly portrayed himself as a girl.

No publicly listed telephone number or information on an attorney could immediately be located for Bogomol.

Messages left Tuesday with prosecutors and with the Denton Independent School District were not immediately returned.

Denton High School sent out a letter Tuesday informing students and parents that the teacher is no longer employed by the district:

May 20, 2014
Dear Broncos

We want to inform you about a situation that recently occurred that involved a former teacher at our school. The Department of Homeland Security contacted me earlier this month about a staff member who allegedly was involved in a federal criminal complaint.

Upon learning of the allegations, we took immediate action and the teacher is no longer employed in the district. The teacher has had no contact with anyone on the campus since that time.

I want to assure you that all Denton ISD officials are working closely with policing authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and respond in a way that protects the safety and security of our students. The district also has contacted the State Board of Educator Certification regarding this teacher.

As always, our school community is here to support all of our students and their families. I will keep you informed should additional information become available.

I want to stress that Denton High School prioritizes the safety of our students. In addition to fostering a supportive environment, we also employ a variety of safety measures including: video surveillance of our campus, consistent two-way radio communication by administrators and a continued partnership with the Denton Police Department through our Student Resource Officers.

Our campus is committed to maintaining an open -door policy for our students and their families to feel comfortable talking with school officials about any student issues. Should you have any additional questions, please contact our school at (940) 369-2000.

Sincerely,
Dan Ford/Principal
Denton High School
