Denton Man Robbed Trying to Buy a TV

Denton police hope surveillance video will lead to the arrest of three men who robbed a man at gunpoint in front of his home.

Police say the victim offered to buy a television from the men, who were going to sell the TV to a pawn shop, when the three suspects pulled a gun on him in his own driveway on April 1.

The suspects were caught on surveillance video at Big State Pawn in the 1300 block of Teasley Lane where they met the victim before the altercation.

The victim, who asked not to show his face on camera since the suspects know where he lives, says the men were trying to sell a flat screen TV inside and he offered to buy it because heโ€™d never had one before.

"Our victim offered to buy it at a higher price than what the pawn shop would buy it for,โ€ said Denton Police Officer Ryan Grelle.

Grelle says the men agreed to go back to the victimโ€™s home so he could test out the TV first.

"Before he could even get inside the house they pulled a weapon, one person pulled a gun on him and demanded the cash right then and there,โ€ Grelle said. He added that the men then took off with the TV and cash.

The victim says he informed his wife of what happened before getting in his truck and trying to follow the men so he could at least get a license plate number. He says the men took off in what he described as a black mid-sized sedan with distinct black rims on the wheels.

Several neighbors describe the area as one filled with families and children; one where they say they donโ€™t need this kind of crime taking place.

Police describe the suspects as three black males, 18 to 21 years old.

The man who was armed with a gun is described as 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds with a short hairstyle, wearing a black t-shirt with a red logo and camo shorts.

Another man is 5 foot 8 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with a black doo rag, black zip-up hoodie, baggy gray sweat pants and large diamond stud earrings.

The third man is described at 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds wearing a red sport shirt, black basketball shorts and has short hair.

Denton police ask anyone with information about the men to call (940) 349-8181.
