In tough economic times, frugal shoppers are looking for deals and smart business owners are giving them.  Here are a few deals we've found for this week.

    DEALS THIS WEEK

This week is KRLD Restaurant Week where diners can enjoy a three-course dinner for $35 at dozens of restaurants around North Texas.  See a complete list here.

The annual sales tax holiday starts on Friday and lasts through the weekend.  Most clothing, shoes and school supplies under $100 will be exempt from state and local taxes.

Aaron Brothers is holding an art supply sale.  Items are up to 50 percent off.  There are 11 stores across DFW.

The Creative Arts and Theater School in Arlington is presenting "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" this weekend. All performances are only $5.  Show times are Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.  CATS is located at 1100 West Randol Mill Road.

    AUGUST DEALS

The semi-annual FIG Finale designer sale hits Dallas Aug. 28 - 29. Top boutiques and retailers are participating and selling their merchandise for up to 75 percent off. Some stores participating are: Elements, Kacky & Karl, Baby Bliss, The Glass Slipper, Moxie, Mei Mei’s, Melanie Gayle, Epic, Krimson and Klover and others.  Tickets are $15 at the door or $12 if bought online beforehand.  The gallery is at 1807 Ross Avenue in Dallas.  See more here: www.fashionindustrygallery.com

Questions about contraception or family planning?  On Aug. 26, Arlington Memorial Hospital is hosting a free Women's Lunch & Learn with Dr. Angela Watson OB/GYN.  Watson will discuss the latest procedures in all areas of family planning from noon to 1 p.m.  RSVP by Aug. 25 at 877-THR-WELL.

Parents can get a free child's entree (10 and under) with the purchase of an adult entree at Cafe Brazil Sunday through Thursday between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.  Also, every Tuesday the restaurant has a special offer on their Facebook page.

Now through Aug. 31, T.G.I. Friday's is offering a coupon for $5 off any entree through their BYOB (Bring Your Own Buddy) Summer promotion.  The coupon can be used for up to 10 people, or buddies.  Get the coupon here.

Mockingbird Station retailers are teaming up to offer deeper discounts to shoppers during the upcoming tax-free weekend.  On Aug. 22, retailers will host a sidewalk sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Francesca’s Collections, Oscar Fierro, The Gap, Centre, Student Body Co-op, Paperie & Co., Bittano, Urban Outfitters and Movida Boutique will take part in the sale.  Additionally, Urban Taco and Rockfish restaurants will have specials throughout the day.

Maggiano's Little Italy wants you to have leftovers "Today & Tomorrow."  First, choose an entree from a special selection of items -- then Maggiano's will give you a second selection to take with you after your meal to enjoy as your dinner the next day. The promotion is available for dine-in only -- find out more on Twitter and Facebook.

Every day in August is "Dollar Day" at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.  The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Parking is $5.

Ferré Ristorante & Bar in Sundance Square has a great deal every Monday.  How does $0 sound for a two-course dinner?  The restaurant's "Dine On Us" promotion offers a free meal and only asks that guests pay for their drinks and tip their server according to what their meal would have cost -- had it not been free.  Sounds more than fair to me.  Reservations are recommended and more information is available on the restaurant's Facebook page.
