    In tough economic times, frugal shoppers are looking for deals and smart business owners are giving them.  Here are a few deals we've found for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4.

    FRIDAY DEALS

    Fort Worth's Near Southside invites you to bring your family, blankets, chairs, pets and friends for "First Friday on the Green." Magnolia Green Park plays host to a live concert featuring The Burning Hotels, The Campaign and Jimmy from Caroline's Spine on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. More information here.

    Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth is hosting a free gospel and contemporary music concert called "Of Many Colors."  Go here for more information.

    WEEKEND DEALS

    Fort Worth Mothers of Multiples is hosting its bi-annual tag sale on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cash only sale will be held at Reedemer Bible Church at 100 Verna Trail North in White Settlement. More information at FWMoM.org.

    Netflix will let you watch The Wizard of Oz for free on Saturday, Oct. 3. It's all part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the movie which was released on Blu-Ray and DVD. All you have to do is make sure that you have Microsoft's Silverlight player to enjoy the free stream of the classic movie. The Netflix Web site will prompt you to install it. You can also watch portions of the concert in central park featuring songs from the movie. More information at Netflix.com.

    Every Saturday has something different and interesting at the Uptown Village at Cedar Hill.  Jazz, movies and car shows will feature attractions on different Saturdays in September. A schedule is available here.

    Saturdays and Sundays at 11:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., the Legends of Texas Gunfight Shows take place at Stockyards Station in Fort Worth. The shows are free and attendees can learn about about the history of this part of North Texas between 1835 and the early 1900s.

    TUESDAY DEAL

    The Fort Worth Library celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with its "Ugly Betty Poncho Party." You'll be able to decorate your own personalized poncho Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Riverside branch on Yucca Ave. More information here.

    On Tuesdays, shoppers over the age of 55 will be given 15 percent off their purchase at all Metroplex Catherine's Plus clothing stores.

    THURSDAY DEALS

    The Hebron High School Orchestra Booster Club is presenting a free concert on Thursday. "From Mozart to Mexico" features three orchestras, including the award-winning Hebron High School Chamber Orchestra. The concert is Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Hebron High School Auditorium in Carrollton. More information here.

    Admission is free for Free Films on First Thursdays at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. On Thursday, Oct. 1 it's the Maltese Falcon at 7 p.m. doors open at 5 p.m.  More information here.

    Papa Murphy's creates your pizza right in front of you and put in a box for you to take home and bake yourself, but never go without a coupon. You can save $3 on a family-sized pizza if you print the coupon CLICK HERE. The offer expires Sept. 30 but you can use it for up to three pizzas. The discount is not valid on dessert pizzas.

    Billy Bobs Texas offers free line dance lessons every Thursday at 7 p.m. Admission on Thursday is reduced until 8 p.m.

    The Angelika Film Center is offering a free outdoor screenings of Alfred Hitchcock movies every Thursday at 8 p.m.  in October in the outdoor pavilion of Mockingbird Station in Dallas. The first screening is "The Birds."  For more information about Hitchcocktober here.

    Curves is offering its 30-Day Diet Plan for free. No membership is needed you can call 1-800-520-8148 or fill out the form on the Curves Web site to find out about the next available free class. More information here.

    Trying to cut back on costs but don't want to miss out on the State Fair of Texas? Go to any Kroger store and you can pick up a general admission ticket and round trip transportation on DART for just $16 dollars. More information about the Kroger offer at BigTex.com. The State Fair of Texas runs from Sept. 25 to Oct. 18.

    Medieval Times will throw you a birthday party featuring a free feast and tournament on your birthday, all you have to do is join their Birthday Fellowship and purchase on regular-priced admission. Freebies started Jan. 1, 2009 and end Dec. 31, 2010. More information at Medieval Times.com.

    OCTOBER DEALS

    Starbucks is issuing the VIA Ready Brew Taste Challenge Oct. 2-5. Starbucks invites customers taste Colombia Starbucks VIA Ready Brew next to Pike Place Roast and challenge them to guess which one is Starbucks VIA. Challenge participants get a coupon for a free tall brewed coffee on their next visit as well as a $1 off coupon for Starbucks VIA Ready Brew purchase. More information at Starbucks.com.

    Every day all day through October 31st two kids can eat free with every one adult entree purchased at Boston Market. The children must be present to take advantage of the deal.

    When was the last time you saw an 80s classic?  Well, that's too long.  Head over to the Belmont Hotel  on the west side of downtown Dallas and watch the movie poolside, under the stars.  Dive-in movies begin at dusk and are free of charge.  The Belmont will show a different movie each week ... go here for more information.

    The Theatre Communications Group is offering Free Nights of Theater. The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs announced the Free Night of Theater will be held from Thursday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 8. featuring more than 2,000 free tickets to more than 25 Dallas-area theaters. Tickets will be released in a staggered format with each weekend's ticket allotment being released on the Monday prior to the performance. Theatergoers can reserve tickets through the Free Night of Theater Web site here beginning at noon on Monday, Oct. 5.     Borden Milk is celebrating Elsie the Cow's 70th birthday with free music downloads now through October 18. Look for specially marked caps on a gallon of milk to receive the information needed for the download.
