Daycare Shooting Was Murder-Suicide: Police

Police say a McKinney mother who was killed while picking up two children from daycare was shot and killed by her estranged husband who later killed himself.

The shooting happened at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday evening at the Discovery Learning Center located in the 1800 block of W. White Ave.

The McKinney Police Department reported that 36-year-old Melissa Williams of McKinney was found shot to death inside her vehicle at the childcare center.

According to witnesses, Williams estranged husband, 33-year-old Cedric McFail, approached the vehicle and began arguing with Williams while she was inside the car with two children.

Police said McFail fired shots into the car, fatally wounding Williams. McFail then fled to the 2700 block of Frontier lane, where he entered a home, had a brief conversation with an unnamed party, and then fatally shot himself. Emergency responders were called to the scene and transported McFail to Baylor Medical Center at McKinney where he died from the gunshot wound.

No one else was injured in the shootings. The children who were in the vehicle at the time of Williams' shooting are in the care of Child Protective Services while the investigation continues.

Records indicated that Williams and McFail were going through a divorce.
