Dallas Park Smoking Ban Approved With Exceptions

Smoking in Dallas parks will be against the law starting March 1.

Dallas City Council members agreed Wednesday that parks should be a healthy place. But in an 8 to 6 vote, the majority refused to impose a total smoking ban without exceptions as recommended by a City Council Committee earlier this year.

The ban will have exceptions for golf courses, the Elm Fork Shooting Range and park events in leased space like the State Fair of Texas.

The future Trinity River Park was also added as an exception to the park smoking ban.

The State Fair and Dallas Arboretum will be allowed to set their own smoking rules.
