Dallas Sues to Remove 190 Properties From Landlord

A Dallas landlord accused of ignoring flagrant code violations and drug dealers could lose control of 190 properties in a lawsuit filed by the city.

The landlord is Topletz Investments, along with several individuals and companies connected with it.

The lawsuit says the company failed to enforce its own rules about immediately evicting drug dealers.

For instance, police records show 11 undercover drug buys and a murder occurred at a Topletz property located at 2501 Bethurum Avenue.

Numerous code violations are reported at many others.

A new tenant at 620 Woodbine Avenue where repairs were underway Thursday said he was satisfied with Topletz after renting from the firm for many years.

The lawsuit says several police drug buys from previous tenants happened at that property in the past year.

The company did not return a message Thursday.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the city sued the same company 21 years ago, but the case was dropped with no results 18 years ago.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings told the newspaper results will be different this time.
