Dallas Students Return to Fire-Damaged School

Classes resume at Dallas ISD's Woodrow Wilson HS Monday

Classes resumed Monday at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas nearly one week after a fire in a third-floor bathroom forced its evacuation.

As the school's 1,800 students made their way toward the building, many said they were ready to return.

"I started to get bored over the break," said freshman Sun Upshaw. "I’m not glad about [returning to school] but we gotta go back."

Freshman Jonathan Tinoco echoed the same motivation for classes to resume.

"I don’t like being at home a lot," Tinoco said with a smile. "It gets lame."

Dallas Independent School District officials downplayed the effort to get the school ready for students again so quickly Monday.

The fire was reported Jan. 26 in the closet of a third-floor bathroom, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but there were initial concerns it had been intentionally set.
