Police Arrest Man After 6-Hour Standoff

Dallas police make an arrest Friday morning after a six-hour standoff at the home of a woman who reported being assaulted by her 54-year-old son overnight.

Jimmy Westmorland barricaded himself in his mother's home in the 7200 block of Bramlett Drive before midnight after his mother's report, police said. He lives in a shed behind the home.

The woman told police that Westmorland threatened to kill her, officials said. She was able to escape and call police.

Police said Westmorland surrendered after Dallas police and SWAT shot gas into the house at about 5:45 a.m.

Westmorland was charged with aggravated assault (family violence), police said.
