About two dozen Dallas police officers responded to a call from the woman at the Kensington Square Apartments in the 15800 block of Knoll Trail Drive at 1:01 a.m.

The woman — who was outside when officers arrived — told police she called because she was concerned the man was going to harm himself during the argument.

Police said they knocked on the door several times, but the man refused to open the door. Police thought the man possibly had a firearm inside, so officers called a SWAT team.

Authorities said negotiators convinced the man to surrender without incident just before 5:30 a.m. He was transported to a facility for evaluation.

Police shut down Keller Springs Road at Knoll Trail Drive during the incident.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith contributed to this report.
