Dallas Police Recruiting in Full Force

Recruiting efforts are in full force at the Dallas Police Department after many officers defected to other departments that promised higher pay.

More than 60 applicants tested Friday in day two of a four day window at police headquarters in downtown Dallas.

The department is hoping to eventually hire at least 300 new officers.

This comes after hundreds of officers recently left the department for more competitive pay with smaller agencies throughout the metroplex.

The testing phase has been underway for sometime in Dallas.

In fact, recruiting spans the country as officers are currently blanketing cities hoping to fill the void.

"We are hurting when it comes to numbers and it's an opportunity for them to pay back and support the citizens and understand our efforts to ensure their safety," Lt. Monique Alex with the Dallas Police Department.
