Dallas Police Officer Shoots Man After Multi-City Pursuit, Standoff

A Dallas police officer shot a man who fired on police officers Wednesday morning after leading them on a chase to a Garland hotel.

Lewisville police said they responded to a burglary call at the Regal Buffet in the 200 block of North Interstate 35E at about midnight and saw the man suspected in the incident driving away.

Lewisville and Farmers Branch officers pursued the man — later identified as 48-year-old Phan Phang — south on I-35E to Interstate 635, according to police. He then exited Jupiter Road in Garland and stopped in the parking lot of The Regency Hotel.

Police said Phang ran into the hotel, followed by the officers. Phang then fired at least one shot at officers, but didn't hit anyone.

The officers stopped following Pnang and set up a perimeter outside the hotel; Dallas police officers were called to assist.

Police said Phang eventually came out on his own, though he was still armed. Officers told Phang to drop his gun, but when he refused a Dallas police officer shot him.

Phang was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that police said were not life threatening.

No officers were injured.

Lewisville police said they collected a bag of cash at the scene.
