Dallas Police: Man Attacked Officer in Store

Dallas police say an off-duty officer used a stun gun to subdue a man who attacked him Sunday afternoon.

The officer, whose name was not released, was working an off-duty security job at a wireless store in the 13000 block of Dallas Parkway when a store employee asked him to escort 26-year-old Thomas Davidson out, according to police.

Authorities said the officer grabbed Davidson's arm and told him to leave but that Davidson then struck the officer multiple times before pulling him to the ground and hitting him several more times.

Two witnesses yelled for the man to stop and tried to pull him off the officer, who ultimately had to use a stun gun to subdue Davidson until additional officers arrived, police said.

Davidson, estimated to be 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds, of Lake Wales, Florida was taken to Medical City Dallas Hospital for treatment.

The 30-year-old officer suffered cuts and bruises, but went home. Police said he was later taken to an Arlington hospital after showing symptoms of a brain injury.

Davidson, who has no apparent criminal history, was charged with aggravated assault to a public servant and criminal trespass. His bail has been set at $130,500.

A message left by The Associated Press with an attorney for Davidson wasn't immediately returned.
