Dallas Police Name Suspect in Death of Woman Found in Burned Car

Dallas police have identified the man they said killed a 20-year-old Fort Worth woman and set her body on fire Saturday to conceal the crime.

According to an arrest warrant released Monday, 26-year-old Manuel Rocha Jr. is wanted for capital murder in the death of Alexus Garcia. [[309259351,C]]

Just before 8 a.m. Saturday, Dallas police and firefighters found Garcia's body in a green Fiat parked in a field along the 2200 block of Royal Lane, near Interstate 35E. She had been strangled, suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was burned in the car doused in gasoline, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.

Rocha, the suspected killer named by the Dallas Police Department, has a long arrest record in Dallas County, including multiple charges of evading arrest, drug possession and assault.

Garcia texted someone Friday night and Saturday morning saying she was at Rocha's Richardson house and was concerned about safety, according to the arrest warrant.

A neighbor's security camera later showed Rocha getting into the green Fiat, though police said Garcia is not visible in the video. Rocha's ID was found inside the Fiat, according to the arrest warrant.

Before investigators found the Fiat on fire, a security camera captured a man matching Rocha's description running away from the scene, police said Monday.

"I hope they find him. I hope justice prevails and he gets what he's got coming to him," said Garcia's stepfather, Frank Correy. "She's a beautiful baby and she didn't deserve this."

Garcia's family members made funeral arrangements Monday, as photos of the young woman adorned the walls of the living room inside the home where her mother and stepfather live. Her father, Chris Garcia, told NBC 5 Monday night he and his family are not prepared to speak publicly about his daughter's death.

No one from Rocha's family would comment.
