Dallas Police Investigating Body Found in Cedar Creek

Dallas police are investigating how a man wound up dead at the bottom of a cliff, face down in Cedar Creek.

Emergency crews in Dallas are investigating a man's body that was found near the 1200 block of Compton St., Thursday morning.

Homicide detectives and the medial examiner are working to determine if the man was murdered or may have accidentally fallen down an approximately 110 foot cliff into the creek.

Dallas police and fire crews were there as Chopper 5 viewed the scene from the air.

From our viewpoint, the body appeared to be beneath a exposed pipe and concrete sluice designed to drain water into the creek.

Dirt which had at one time covered the pipe appeared to have been eroded away, though it was not apparent how recently that erosion had happened.

The body was discovered by an officer patrolling the area off Compton St., who was looking for illegal dumping. The creek was the site of other illegal dumping activities, including an alleged dumping of pig blood from the Columbia Meat Packing Plant. That plant was closed in April while a criminal investigation continues.

NBC 5 has crews at the scene to gather more information. As this is a developing story, some portions may change as we confirm or gather more information.
