Pedestrian Killed by Amtrak Train in Mesquite

Authorities said a man was killed by an Amtrak train in Mesquite Tuesday.

An Amtrak spokesman said the Texas Eagle train was heading from San Antonio to Chicago when it hit 24-year-old Carlos Solis at about 4 p.m.

Witnesses said Solis was walking east on the railroad tracks near the intersection of South Buckner Boulevard and Lovett Avenue when the train, also heading east, struck him.

No passengers or crew were injured. Amtrak confirmed the train was delayed until emergency officials could complete their investigation.
