Dallas Police Investigate 21 Murders In June

NBC 5 records show there have been at least 21 murders in Dallas since June 1.

“This is not normal,” said Kimberly Baker. “Absolutely not normal.”

For Kimberly Baker and her neighbors the events of this weekend rocked their quiet corner. A jogger found 15-year-old Joe Martinez shot dead in a nearby alley.

“We’ve never heard of anything like this happening so close to our pocket of Oak Cliff,” said Baker.

So far, police have no suspects and no motive. Those who loved the Oak Cliff teen are desperate for answers.

“We want anyone with information to come forward,” said family friend Martha Rodriguez. “We know someone knows something.”

Someone also knows something about the murder of Alexus Garcia. The 20-year-old was found beaten and strangled inside a burning car off Royal Lane on June 20.

Law enforcement issued a capitol murder warrant for the suspected killer, Manuel Rocha, but he has not been found.

Dallas police would not talk on-camera about the murder rate, but said their department implemented a crime reduction plan on May 27.
