Dallas Police Department Reveals Security Upgrades

The Dallas Police Department revealed on Monday a list of enhanced security measures at its Jack Evans Dallas Police Headquarters following the ambush by a man in an armored vehicle earlier this summer.

In the early morning hours Saturday, June 13, police said 35-year-old James Boulware fired on the facility on South Lamar Street, shattering several windows before using his armored vehicle to ram a police vehicle and leading officers on a pursuit south on Interstate 45.

No police officers or civilians were injured in the shooutout or police pursuit.

Boulware was fatally shot by police after barricading himself inside the armored van for hours at a Jack in the Box parking lot along I-45 near Interstate 20 in Hutchins.

The police department said its security enhancements include replacing the windows at the headquarters building and having dedicated officer patrols at each of its police facilities.

Police said the city has allocated $1 million in the 2015-16 fiscal budget for security improvements at all police facilities.

And the police department is working on a comprehensive security study.
