Dallas Police Bicycle Officer Collapses While on Duty

Officer rushed to Baylor University Medical Center in critical condition

A Dallas police bicycle officer was rushed to Baylor University Medical Center after collapsing while on duty Friday afternoon.

Officials said the officer was transported from the area of Santa Fe Avenue and South Henderson Avenue near Deep Ellum at about 4 p.m.

He was listed in critical but stable condition, and no other details have been released.

Police were later seen escorting a group of people to the hospital, but the department would not confirm it they were the officer's family.

A line of police cruisers sat near the hospital throughout the evening as several officers waited outside the emergency room for the latest word on their fellow officer.

The Dallas police chaplain came to the hospital with a Bible in hand, followed by Police Chief David Brown at about 8 p.m., who had nothing to say to the media.
