Dallas Police Assistant Chief Asks for Demotion

In a move that surprised many within the Dallas Police Department, Assistant Chief Tom Lawrence asked for a demotion to lieutenant on Tuesday.

That means Lawrence, a 32-year veteran of the department and former rookie of the year, essentially asked to be demoted down three ranks. Lieutenant is the highest rank that isn’t part of Chief David Brown’s command staff.
