Dallas Police Arrest Man Suspected of Murder After Chase

Balch Springs police say Dallas police arrested a man suspected of murder after a chase early Wednesday morning.

Balch Springs police were called to the 3600 block of Woodbury Road, where they found one person dead, Edgar Avila, and two people injured.

After talking to witnesses, police identified Joe Gutierrez as the man possibly involved in the assault and tracked him to a home in Dallas.

After officers with both the Dallas and Balch Springs police departments arrived at the home, Gutierrez drove away. Officers pursued him until he crashed near a creek between Clifford Drive and Interstate 35E at about 12:45 a.m.

Gutierrez and another person ran from the vehicle after the crash, according to police. Officers captured both in a wooded area near the 9700 block of Harry Hines Boulevard shortly after.

Police said Gutierrez was taken to the Dallas County Jail where he faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder. The second person, who has not yet been identified, has also been detained.
