Dallas Man Convicted for Child Porn, Fake Badge, Steroids

Officials said a Dallas man pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, mailing steroids and impersonating a police officer in federal court Tuesday.

Authorities said they arrested 40-year-old Nicholas Todd Freed at a Dallas post office Jan. 28 after tracking packages containing anabolic steroids, according to U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña. When an officer with Homeland Security Investigations arrested Freed, officials said he found a counterfeit U.S. Marshals Service credential and badge.

Later that day, law enforcement officials said they seized computers and other equipment used to make false government identification. Further investigation revealed images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Freed pleaded guilty counts of attempted possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a document-making implement with intent that it be used in the production of false documents and possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.

Freed faces several decades in federal prison at his sentencing set for April 20, 2015.
