Dallas Man Admits to Fatal Shooting at Home: Police

Dallas police say a man has admitted to fatally shooting another man outside his home Sunday.

Officers were called at about 6:15 p.m. to a home in the 2400 block of Southland Street, near C.F. Hawn Freeway and Elsie Faye Heggins Street, where 54-year-old Gregory Bishop was found deceased.[[363194601,L]]

During their investigation, police said Ervin Ray Pickens, 61, admitted to shooting Bishop after a confrontation.

Pickens told police he and another person have been helping care for Bishop's 9-month-old child at the home, and Bishop arrived Sunday evening demanding to see the child. When Pickens told Bishop he was not welcome, he said Bishop tried pushing his way into the home.

That's when Pickens allegedly shot Bishop with a shotgun, according to an arrest affidavit.

Pickens was charged with murder and jailed on a $250,000 bond.
