The United States Postal Service announced Thursday the Dallas Distribution and Processing Center will not close as originally planned.
Under the previous plan, Dallas County mail would have been processed in the Fort Worth area and many jobs and facilities at the center on Sylvan would have been cut.
Critics of the previous decision, like Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, said the now reversed plan would have cut 1100 jobs in Dallas and created delays in mail processing.
"The USPS made the right decision," Jenkins said in a press release. "It makes no sense to dismantle an efficient processing center in the largest county in the fastest growing Combined Metro Area in the United States. This has been a tough and uphill fight and we must remain vigilant in our advocacy or risk losing a vital component of our community."
The USPS is looking for ways to cut its budget after years of losses in revenue.
