Dallas Love Field Helps Fight Spread of Flu

Holiday travelers are getting a helping hand at Dallas Love Field to keep them safe from the flu.

The airport has placed 15 hand sanitizing stations throughout the building during flu season, and even offers passengers small, personal sized bottles for free.

“They like to clip them onto their bag and take them, and they’re also also refillable. They’ve been very appreciative of that,” said Lanita Magee, emergency coordinator at Dallas Love Field.

Signs at Medical City Children's Hospital in Dallas remind families to cover their coughs and that children under the age of 13 are not allowed to visit patients during flu season.

“We don’t want anybody who has signs of symptoms of flu - a fever, cough, vomiting, those kind of things - to come to the hospital and visit,” said Dr. Matt Bush, director of emergency services at Medical City.

So far this flu season, Dallas County has reported two adults have died from the illness, and a third death is now under investigation.

“This is flu season. Make sure that if you’re feeling sick, stay at home,” said Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services. “Seek medical attention, check with your primary provider, and that’s going to be the key point of getting us through this flu season.”

With the flu season expected to peak after the holidays, a flu shot is still the best defense.

Mishon Roy, of Dallas, made sure her entire family was protected from the flu before the holidays by getting their flu shots.

“It's something that you don’t play with. I mean, people can die from it, and I want to make sure that my family is protected,” Roy said.
