Dallas ISD Opens New ‘Transformative' School

Enrollment is open for the new CityLab High School in the Dallas Independent School District.

CityLab High School is one of five "transformative schools" with specialized curriculum for students. The new high school will focus on environmental science, urban planning, city policy, and architecture.

"We want the students to think creatively about their city and their environment," said Tammy Underwood who will be the Principal of CityLab High School.

"Learning downtown will allow the students to be deeply emerged in the process of designing every aspect of our city. They will be able to use the environment in the city, the science of the city and really be creative about what that design looks like," she said.

Administrators at CityLab are getting ready for 100 incoming freshmen.

Internships in the field of study will also be available for students.

Dallas ISD is also accepting applications for these transformative schools for certain grades:

  • D.A. Hulcy Steam Middle Schools (focus on robotics, technology, and art)
  • Solar Prep All Girls Elementary School (focus on science, technology, engineering, and math)
  • Eduardo Mata Elementary Montessori School
  • Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship Academy (focus on personalized learning High School)
