Dallas ISD Gets New Athletic Director

Student athletes in Dallas have a new leader.

Gil Garza is the new athletic director for the Dallas Independent School District.  He comes to Dallas after spending 12 years as athletic director for the San Antonio Independent School District.

Garza officially starts work on Aug. 11, and was originally scheduled to outline his vision for the district's athletic programs on Wednesday to members of the media.  That meeting has been postponed until after his start date.

The DISD released the following information on Garza earlier this week.

"He currently sits on the University Interscholastic League State Executive Committee, an 11-member committee that interprets the rules, settles disputes between different UIL districts and disputes that arise past the district level, conducts investigations and hearings of alleged violations and hears appeals. He is also a former president of the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association. Garza was awarded the 2010 THSADA Athletic Director of the Year and was inducted into the THSADA Hall of Honor in 2012. A former head football and baseball coach, Garza has also held athletic director titles for both Edcouch-Elsa ISD and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD."
