Dallas House Fire Raises Concerns About Hydrants

People in a Northwest Dallas neighborhood say they are concerned about the hydrants on their streets after a fire ripped through a home on Royal Club Lane.

According to Dallas Fire Rescue, the blaze broke out before 4:00 a.m. Saturday.

Six people, including a man, his pregnant wife, their toddler daughter and three visiting friends, escaped with no major injuries.

“They managed to get out, but it was within two minutes that their roof collapsed,” said Jack Jackson, a family member.

Jackson says the only belonging his brother and his family recovered unscathed from the flames was a family bible.

However, neighbors are raising other concerns, since, according to Jackson, his brother told him the fire hydrant closest to the family’s home was not operational, forcing fire fighters to look for another source further into the neighborhood.

“If this one doesn’t, how do we know that ours does?” said neighbor Blake Harbour, who lives around the corner. “I’m worried that if my house goes up, they’re going to be searching for streets and streets trying to find a fire hydrant that actually works.”

Harbour and other neighbors told NBC5 they want to see all the neighborhood hydrants inspected by the city of Dallas.

NBC 5 reached out to a Dallas Fire Rescue spokesman about these concerns on Saturday evening, but an answer about the hydrants wasn’t readily available before our 10:00 p.m. news deadline.

A spokesman told NBC 5 earlier in the day that a full fire report would not be ready until Monday.
