Firefighters with Dallas Fire-Rescue were seen in a field across the street from the school, which is located at 500 Easton Road, where a crew was doing an unknown type of work that resulted in the gas line being cut.

DFR confirmed the school chose to evacuate to the athletic fields, which is on the opposite side of the building closest to the gas leak.

Officials with the Dallas Independent School District said students and faculty were allowed back in the building after firefighters picked up no readings of natural gas inside the building.

DFR taped off the area near the gas leak and is monitoring the air quality while awaiting the arrival of the gas company.

There have been no injuries reported and officials have not said when the leak is expected to be repaired.
