Dallas Goes Purple For New Parkland

The dedication of the new Parkland Hospital in Dallas took place Monday.

It was a big step for some of those involved with its construction.

“I am the father of three children,” senior vice president of New Parkland Hospital construction Lou Saksen said. “I feel just like when they went off to college.”

The new state-of-the-art hospital has 862 private rooms and is twice the size of the old hospital and will open its doors to patients Aug. 20.

They decided to have the dedication early because there is still a lot more work to be done before they open the hospital to the public.

"There is a lot of training going on, orientation,” Saksen said. “The staff is coming over, finding out where their work spaces are, finding out where their supplies are going to be."

Former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush even recorded special video messages for the dedication.

The public will have an opportunity to see the hospital before it opens at a community open house set for 9 a.m. to noon April 11.
