The City of Dallas is slated to finish the year on a high note -- crime has fallen about 10 percent this year.
Police attribute the drop in crime to more officers on the streets, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The paper is reporting a dramatic decrease in crime across the board - with violent crimes down 14% and property crimes like burglary and theft falling almost 9%.
It also states that part of the decline may be caused by changes in the departments reporting practices.
However, in the past fiscal year - police added more than 200 officers to the force, bringing the department total to nearly 3400 officers.
Currently Dallas holds the spot for the highest crime rate per capita - and city officials are hoping this year's turn-around will help them relinquish that title.
If the year does end with crime down 10 percent, the DMN says it will be the biggest drop since 1993.
