Chase With Semitrailer Ends Near UNT Campus in Denton

Driver taken into custody in Denton

Dallas County sheriff's deputies chased the driver of stolen semitrailer cab from downtown Dallas to Denton on Tuesday afternoon.

The chase began shortly before 3 p.m. as the driver barreled north on Interstate 35E toward Denton County.

The white semitrailer cab, which did not have a trailer attached, crossed the Lewisville Lake bridge and headed toward Hickory Creek, Corinth and Denton at 3:10 p.m. Officers attempted to deploy stop sticks to flatten the tires on the big rig.

A short time later, a puff of smoke could be seen coming from beneath the truck as at least one of the tires ruptured.

The driver exited North Texas Boulevard in Denton at 3:18 p.m. and pulled over next to a Sack & Save in the 1500 block of North Interstate 35E. Police officers immediately surrounded the vehicle and took the driver into custody without further incident.

The trucking company that owns the rig said it was stolen from a truck stop and was hauling scrap metal before the theft. The original driver of the rig was not injured during the theft.

There were no reported injuries or crashes in connection with the chase.
