Some inmates jailed in Dallas could soon relocate.

Dallas County Commissioners have approved an agreement with McLennan County to lease jail beds in Waco if overcrowding happens.

The deal approved Tuesday would take effect if the Dallas County's jail population exceeds 7,500 inmates, which would make it difficult to meet state staffing regulations.

The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that the current jail population is around 7,100 inmates.

The agreement, with a daily rate of $45 per inmate, would give Dallas County up to 200 extra beds at any time.

Waco is 80 miles southwest of Dallas.
