The marquee in front of Dallas First Baptist grabbed attention from worshipers and protesters: "Why Gay is Not OK."

Gay Rights Advocates Say Sermon Hurtful

A preacher says Sunday's lesson at First Baptist in downtown Dallas is biblical truth but gay rights advocates say it's hurtful.

More than 70 gay rights advocates peacefully protested outside the church, holding up signs and singing hymns.

Dr. Robert Jeffress says the lesson is one of seven at the church from a series called "Politically Incorrect."

"Homosexuality is a perversion, it is a twisting of God's plan for human sexuality." said Jeffress.

Gary Bearden, a Baptist and openly gay, says the marquee sends the wrong message.

"God created me as a gay person and he likes me just the way I am. He loves me just the way I am," Bearden said.

Jeffress isn't backing down, and said sermons will continue next week at First Baptist with "How to talk to a Gay Person."

  • marc Wednesday, Nov 26 at 10:48 AM FLAG COMMENT To cold house , "YES", still and always. If you believe I hate gays, you are wrong. I believe in God Almighty and it is out of love that I address these issues as it is required by his word. If you, or those, who believe God is ok with homosexuality, read the fist chapter of the book of Romans. It is not for condemnation that I speak against homosexuality , but for the very sake of gays themselves. Not hate but LOVE!

When a person's lifestyle is based on sex and sex alone, what do they know of love? If gay's were truley in the realm of "love" then why can't they have seem to have those "feelings" for someone of the opposite sex? And while we're on the subject of meaningful relationships, what about bi- sexuals? Do they love men today ... MORE >
  • Anonymous Monday, Nov 17 at 10:31 AM FLAG COMMENT Everyone says "Open the Bible--it's in there!" ... guess what other sin is in the bible? Sex before marriage. And guess what sin you force gay people to commit since you won't permit them to make a permanent, loving commitment to one another in marriage?
  • Daniel Sunday, Nov 16 at 10:44 PM FLAG COMMENT Gays expect Christians to respect their way of life so gays should respect the Christian way of life. If they don't like the sermon they don't have to go to the church. Pastor Jeffress is a straight up Bible preaching man and knows what the scripture says. It is not my place to judge a person for their choices because God still loves us even when we sin against him. The thing is to realize our sins, ask God to forgive them, an ... MORE >
