Gay Rights Advocates Say Sermon Hurtful

More Photos and Videos

The marquee in front of Dallas First Baptist grabbed attention from worshipers and protesters: "Why Gay is Not OK."

More than 70 gay rights advocates peacefully protested outside the church, holding up signs and singing hymns.

Dr. Robert Jeffress says the lesson is one of seven at the church from a series called "Politically Incorrect."

"Homosexuality is a perversion, it is a twisting of God's plan for human sexuality." said Jeffress.

Gary Bearden, a Baptist and openly gay, says the marquee sends the wrong message.

"God created me as a gay person and he likes me just the way I am. He loves me just the way I am," Bearden said.

Jeffress isn't backing down, and said sermons will continue next week at First Baptist with "How to talk to a Gay Person."
