Emergency Slides Used to Evacuate Dallas-Bound Southwest Flight

Passengers on a Southwest Airlines jet had to use slides to evacuate after the pilot reported an odor in the cabin, declared an emergency and safely returned to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Airport spokesman Jason Zielinski said nobody was hurt in Tuesday morning's incident involving Flight 481 bound for Dallas Love Field.

Southwest spokeswoman Michelle Agnew said emergency personnel on the ground observed a "hot spot" on the wing and recommended the jet not pull up to the terminal.

The captain deployed evacuation slides for the 107 passengers and five-member crew.

Austin businessman Jay Ash shot this video of passengers using slides to evacuate Southwest Airlines Flight 481.

Austin businessman Jay Ash, who was a passenger on the flight, shared the above video of the evacuation with NBC 5.

Ash was on his way to Tulsa for business when the flight returned to Austin. Ash had nothing but praise for how the airline handled the incident. He had to cancel his business trip and instead will spend the day in Dallas after arriving at Dallas Love Field on the 12:30 p.m. flight.

Agnew said there was no fire or smoke reported in the cabin. She didn't elaborate on the hot spot.  Officials are seeking the source of the odor.

Zielinski said the jet landed less than 25 minutes after takeoff.

NBC 5's Ken Kalthoff contributed to this report.
