Dallas Animal Services Names New Director

Dallas Animal Services has named a new director after a search that lasted several months.

Edward Jamison begins his new role Oct. 18. He is the former chief animal control officer in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was credited with increased community engagement and an award-winning adoption program.

The DAS position has been open since last year when the city asked the Dallas Police Department to take over the job. Since then, officers reported improvements with the loose dog problem.

It's been a topic of much discussion and call for change since the May 2016 mauling death of U.S. Army veteran Antoinette Brown.

Dallas police Maj. Barbara Hobbs has been the interim manager of Dallas Animal Services since last May.
