Random Drive-By Shooting Leaves One Dead

3 Arrested in Connection With Cabbie's Death
Authorities have arrested three people in the slaying of a North Texas cab driver whose body was found partially burned, stabbed and with his throat slashed. Denton County Sheriff's investigators believe Hooshang Vatanpour was robbed and killed Thursday night after picking up two men near a bus station in Dallas who wanted to go to Wichita Falls. Noah Robert Whitehead, 23, William Kirk Stephens, 22, and Mariesha Lynne Ohlfs, 32, were being held Sunday at the Denton County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. They all face capital murder charges.

Computer Vendor Shot, Killed at Sidewalk Sale
Dallas police said a vendor was shot and killed early Saturday morning at a bimonthly computer sale. Someone in a dark-colored vehicle with stripes on the doors fired five shots at the First Saturday Sidewalk sale in the 1600 block of North Field Street at about 2:30 a.m. Herbert Orsburn, 51, was hit by one of the bullets and later died. North Texas Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in the case. Schepps Dairy is offering an additional $5,000 reward.

Woman Shot in Fair Park Area
Dallas police said a woman was shot to death in the Fair Park area Sunday afternoon. Investigators said the woman was shot on a sidewalk just off Grand Avenue and Meyers Street. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are questioning a woman who was found in a nearby apartment complex in connection with the shooting.

Driver Rams Pulled-Over Police Car
Dallas police said a driver crashed into an officer's squad car Sunday morning. Police said the cruiser was parked at Interstate 35E and Empire Central while the officer was working another crash. The driver failed a sobriety test and was arrested, investigators said. No one was injured.
